Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Cuong met with USABC and USCC members

 

On Jan 28th, Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Cuong discussed with members of United States Chamber of Commerce and US-ASSEAN Business Council about  economic situation and investment in Vietnam as well as Vietnam - US relations in 2013. This marked the first event in the 2013 Vietnam Forum, a regular dialogue between Vietnam Embassy and US agencies, businesses and think-tanks to facilitate further development of bilateral economic and trade ties. USABC Chairman Alex Feldman, USCC Asia Director Catherine Mellor and over 30 businesses attended the meeting ((Boeing, IBM, Microsoft, Google, DHL, Fedex, UPS, BakerMckenzie, KPMG, Lockheed Martin, Westinghouse, John Deere, Catepillar, etc)
 
Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Cuong briefed participants on Vietnam's economic challenges in 2012, macro-economic stabalization and inflation control policies as well as socio-economic priorities in 2013. He also laid out the prospects for bilateral relations in 2013, including TPP negotiaton and Lower Mekong Initiative, and US-ASEAN cooperation in 2013. He thanked US companies for their contribution to Vietnam's economic development. 
 
At the meeting, US representatives expressed their support for Vietnam Government's efforts in macroeconomic stabilization, inflation control and economic restructuring and reaffirmed their commitment to long-term presence in Vietnam. US businesses also highlighted that TPP negotiation, which is due to be completed in 2013 and results in a balanced agreement, would be of critical significance to their investment and business plans in Vietnam and South East Asia.  
Vietnam Forum would be continued in 2013 and focused on human resource, invesment and business environment, high-tech transfer, trade promotion, Mekong development, PPP, etc.
