President leaves for APEC meeting

At the invitation of U.S President Barack Obama, Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang  will attend the 19th Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation Summit in Hawaii from Nov. 10-13. The President of Vietnam will accompanied by his spouse, Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, Minister and Chairman of the President's office Dao Viet Trung, Trade Minister Vu Huy Hoang, Finance Minister Vuong Dinh Hue, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Viet Nam to the U.S Nguyen Quoc Cuong and other senior officials of Vietnamese ministries.

(VNA) Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Cuong has paid a working visit to Pittsburg city in Pennsylvania State, to boost economic and education cooperation between Vietnam and the US state.

During the Oct. 5-7 visit, Ambassador Cuong held working sessions with leaders of Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, the University of Pittsburg and the Chatham University.

The diplomat briefed the host of Vietnam’s integration policy, its socio-economic achievements and potentials.

Industry and Trade Minister on working trip to US

(VNA) Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang chaired over a conference on investment opportunities in Vietnam on September 15 in Washington.

At the conference, Minister Hoang highlighted Vietnam's policies and priorities to attract foreign investment in energy and finance areas. He also witnessed the signing of minutes of understanding on cooperation between PetroVietnam and McKinsey&Company.

VN, US hold second defense policy dialogue

(VNA)The second Vietnam-US defence policy dialogue took place in Washington on Sept. 19 under the co-chair of Vietnamese Deputy Defence Minister Lt. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh and US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence Robert Scher.

At the dialogue, the two sides expressed satisfaction at the outcomes of bilateral defence cooperation over the recent past.

Both Vinh and Scher agreed on the need to make the Vietnam-US defence cooperation more practical in the interest of each country and for peace, stability and cooperation in the region and the world.

Vietnam’s exports to US up 20 percent

(VNA) Vietnam ’s exports to the US in the first seven months of this year earned more than 9.63 billion USD, a surge of 20.7 percent against the same period last year, according to the US International Trade Commission.

Among Vietnam ’s export items to the US , garments and textiles took the lead with 3.64 billion USD, a year-on-year increase of 18 percent, followed by footwear with nearly 1.15 billion USD, up 24.5 percent, and wood products with 998.5 million USD, up 4 percent.
