March 19 Update on Viet Nam’s entry requirements to control the spread of COVID-19 pandemic

From 12:00 p.m March 21, 2020, Viet Nam shall temporarily suspend the validity of all Visa Exemption Certificates issued for Vietnamese residing overseas and their spouses and children.

Update by March 17 on Viet Nam’s entry restriction to cope with the spread of COVID-19

Viet Nam shall temporarily suspend the issuance of entry visas for foreigners in the next 30 days, starting from 00:00 Wednesday, March 18, 2020 (Vietnam local time). The measure IS NOT APPLICABLE to passengers traveling to Viet Nam for DIPLOMATIC or OFFICIAL purposes.

Update by March 16 on Viet Nam's entry restriction to cope with the current COVID-19 outbreak 

Starting from 12:00 PM on March 15, 2020 (Vietnam local time), Viet Nam temporarily suspends entry into the country for all foreign nationals (tourists, passengers holding family visit/student/ordinary visas) coming from or passing through Schengen Area, the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland within a 14-day period prior to their expected entry into Viet Nam.

Guidance on the implementation of quarantine and medical precautions for individuals arriving in Vietnam from regions affected by COVID-19      

On Feb 28-29, 2020, the National Steering Committee for the Prevention and Control of COVID-19 and the Ministry of Health of Vietnam issued Documents No. 953/CV-BCD and No. 991/BYT-DP with updated guidance on the implementation of quarantine and medical precautions for individuals arriving in Vietnam from regions affected by COVID-19.

Update on medical declaration for travelers coming to Vietnam

From 06:00 AM on Mar 7, 2020 (Vietnam local time), mandatory medical declaration shall be applied to travelers coming to Vietnam.

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc: Foreigners infected with the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 would have to cover their treatment fees in Vietnam

At a meeting of the government’s permanent members in Hanoi on March 13, PM Phuc also requested stepping up the application of technological advances in the fight against COVID-19 outbreak and mobilizing means and personnel for treatment of infected patients in order to minimize possible deaths. Foreigners infected with the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 would have to cover their treatment fees in Vietnam, but quarantine and testing fees will be free of charge, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has said.
